Situated only a 20 minute drive from Glasgow, the Old Rowallan Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland, is set in stunning ancient woodlands and is steeped in history. For centuries Rowallan was home to the Mures of Rowallan and in later years the Campbells made it their home in Ayrshire.
Enjoying a beautiful location in an ancient Ayrshire woodland, Rowallan Castle is a historically important property with many architecturally significant original features still intact.
A JOURNEY BACK IN TIME
Set in the luxurious Rowallan Estate which includes a 19 hole Golf Course designed by Ryder Cup winning Captain Colin Mongomerie and the ‘New’ Rowallan Castle as well as a fantastic restaurant and clubhouse, the Rowallan Estate has a unique character and history all of its own.
The earliest part of the castle structure was built in the 13th century, with the main part being added around two centuries later, though the grounds of the castle house a bridge over Carmel Water dating from the 9th century. As you walk over the bridge and down the tree-lined driveway you can’t help but feel the history all around you. It is a truly captivating place to spend time in.
The castle is very unusual in that many of its features have remained intact throughout the centuries and we have worked closely with Historic Scotland for almost 30 years to undertake a comprehensive yet sympathetic restoration that will allow Rowallan Castle to have a viable future while preserving the unique building fabric for future generations to enjoy.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN
As the restoration is now complete we are now offering the opportunity for people to make their own mark at the castle by taking bookings for exclusive private hire. We are delighted to have had a huge amount of enquiries from Mure and Campbell families all over the world whose family history can be traced directly back to the castle and the local area.
