Captains Letter

Dear Member,

Welcome to another exciting year at Rowallan! What a great year 2017 was for the club. Medal participation numbers were higher than ever before which I feel enhanced the competitiveness and excitement in all our competitions. Congratulations once again to our club champion John Rushbury and handicap champion Stewart Reid on their success. Both played exceptionally well over the course of the weekend and were worthy winners.

With the 2018 fixture list now confirmed, I’m sure you can see for yourself how many competitions are available for members to participate in. With the amount of options available, hopefully there is something for everyone. With the addition now of the Old Castle Course (9 hole) it certainly adds an interesting to dimension to competitions. I’m looking forward to seeing who will win our first 9 hole medal!

As we edge closer to the start of the new season I’d like to announce a few personnel changes:

Firstly, our club team matches. For the handicap team I’m delighted to say Alex MacNeil will be Captain and Kevin Hamilton Vice-Captain. Hopefully we can go one better and be Ayrshire Champions this year, and if not, at least you know with these guys in charge you’ll lose with a smile on your face! If any member would like to be considered for playing in the team please let them know. Thanks also to Andy MacLeod for all his hard work in previous years pulling this together. We are in a lucky position to have a lot of members who would like to play so please bear in mind how difficult team selection can be. Your support of both Alex and Kevin is much appreciated.

For the scratch team, I will continue as Captain and I’m delighted to announce Kevin Bell as my Vice-Captain this year. Again, if any member would like to be considered for selection (maximum playing handicap 6) please contact Kevin or myself.

Finally, I’m excited to announce that Drew Parsons has accepted the role as my Vice-Captain of the club for 2018, moving into Captain from 2019. Drew has been a member of Rowallan for a number of years now and I’m sure you’ll all agree is worthy of the post. Please join me in congratulating Drew as well as Alex, Kevin and Kevin as we move into the new season.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome any new members we also have this year. If you have a handicap to play for please reach out to any of the existing members if you need to get a round or two in. We are a friendly bunch and you will soon realize all our members are more than willing to join up with you. The Facebook page is a great way to make initial contact.

As we continue to grow the club, please keep your suggestions coming in whether it is golf competition ideas, social night ideas or any other thoughts you may have that could benefit the members. This is your club, and we want as much feedback as possible to help us continue to grow.

If you haven’t dusted the clubs off this year yet, get yourself down to the club soon. Those handicaps won’t just magically drop 😊. Thanks to Robert and his team, the course is in great shape this winter and will look fantastic by the time the season proper begins.

Play well everyone, but most of all, enjoy your golf!

Yours Sincerely,

Robbie

Fixture List

2018 Fixture List Announced

We are delighted to announce the 2018 Fixtures for Rowallan Castle Golf Club. Thank you to everyone who emailed in their suggestions before Christmas time and hopefully we have managed to accommodate your requests. Each year along with the club the fixture list grows, and fingers crossed we can get some sunshine on our backs this year!

Ready Golf:

The club will now implement Ready golf which has been backed by the R&A to help improve pace of play on the golf course. Ready golf applies when playing in all competitions at Rowallan except Match play.

Slide1

A good video produced by the R&A below explains the process of Ready Golf.

2018 Fixtures:

On the following like you will find the fixtures in PDF formats 2018 Fixture List Print Form and  on Excel format 2018 RCGC fixture list. We will try and follow these fixtures throughout the year, but if we must re-arrange due to weather or other circumstances this will be changed and sent out. Within the fixtures for the year we have our usual medal/Match play competitions, and listed below we would like to introduce a few new events for this year.

  • 9 Hole Medal Competitions
  • New Highlander Cup format
  • Three Tee Challenge
  • Rowallan Castle Gents Open
  • Ayrshire Matchplay Championship
  • Golphin for Kids

Continuing from last year we have the House Flag, Campbell Scramble, Members & Guest Day, Presidents Quaich and more. We have created a Competition Format document (attached) which explains all the Rowallan competitions.

The first change is maintenance week, it will now happen on the third week of the month as oppose to the last week of the month. There will be no Wednesday medal on this week.

Secondly, is a new format for the Highlander Cup. Instead of being played over a Saturday and Sunday it will now change to qualifying scores from Monthly medals with the final being played in September.

A new fun event has been created called the Three Tee Challenge this will be a stableford event and will play from the White, Yellow and Red tees.

Unfortunately, there will be no Belhaven Club Handicap Championships this year as Scottish Golf have stopped this event. To replace this event, Scottish Golf along with the R&A they have introduced the national 9-hole tournament. Our qualifier will be on the 11th of April and more details will come nearer the event.

The Old Castle Course:

9 Hole medal competitions will run over the first 8 holes on the course then the 19th hole. This loop will now be called The Old Castle Course.  All 9-hole medals will be stableford competitions and will follow the same booking process/entry criteria as full medals. Due to the 9-hole course coming, we will no longer offer 8-hole memberships as these will change to 9-hole membership.

Local Rules:

Attached is the local rules for the golf course, before the medal competitions start it is worth looking over these as it could help shave a couple of shots from your score. Please remember the nett double bogey rule for all medal competitions!

Social Evenings:

Also listed on the fixture list are social evenings. This is something that we would like to grow as the year progresses, with the aim being to have one social evening a month at the club. We will have different events such as Masters Quiz night, Casino Night, Champions Dinner, Prizegiving (date tbc) and more.
