Situated in the stunning Ayrshire countryside, just 20 minutes from Glasgow, the Old Rowallan Castle was the ancestral home to both the Mures and the Campbells. Steeped in history, it offers views of ancient Ayrshire woodland and stands tall as a historically important property with significant original features.
A JOURNEY BACK IN TIME
Set in the luxurious Rowallan Estate which includes a 19 hole Golf Course designed by Ryder Cup winning Captain Colin Mongomerie , one of Scotland’s finest castle wedding venues, as well as one of the best restaurants in Ayrshire, the Rowallan Estate has a unique character with an extensive history.
The earliest part of the castle structure was built in the 13th century, with the main part added around two centuries later. However, the roots go back even further – with the grounds of the castle house a bridge over Carmel Water, dating from the 9th century. Walking over the bridge and down the tree-lined driveway, you can’t help but feel the history and captivating nature of the grounds.
The castle is very unusual in that many of its features have remained intact throughout the centuries and the Rowallan Castle team have worked closely with Historic Scotland for almost 30 years to undertake a comprehensive yet sympathetic restoration that will allow the old castle to have a viable future, while preserving the unique building fabric for future generations to enjoy.
HIRE A CASTLE
After extensive and careful restoration, we are now offering guests the opportunity to add to the history of the castle with options for exclusive private hire. We are delighted to have had a huge number of enquiries from Mure and Campbell families all over the world, whose family history can be traced directly back to the castle and the local area.
